Highland Development Ventures, LLC is led by Adam Hird, who has more than 30 years of combined experience in real estate investment, real estate development, real estate operations, architecture and engineering.
Before founding Highland Development Ventures, Mr. Hird was a managing director of Kayne Anderson Real Estate Advisors, the private-equity real-estate arm of Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors, a $26 billion investment management firm. At Kayne Anderson, Mr. Hird oversaw the acquisition of more than $2.6 billion in specialized niche real estate sectors, including more than 31,500 student housing beds; 1,100 conventional multifamily units; 15,000 self-storage units; 2,000 senior-housing units; and nearly 400,000 square feet of medical office space.
Prior to joining Kayne Anderson, Mr. Hird spent a decade in real estate development and management, overseeing approximately 3 million square feet of residential, commercial and retail real estate development, including entitlements, core and shell construction, major rehabilitations, adaptive reuse and interior improvements. His responsibilities included managing the real estate development activities in the Connecticut and greater New York City area for the Boston-based The Davis Companies (aka Davis Marcus Partners); serving as director of Design & Construction for Time Equities, Inc. in New York, with a portfolio reaching into 23 states and Canada; and providing independent project-management services on a broad array of real estate and construction projects.
Further complementing his real estate development and investment experience, Mr. Hird was, earlier in his career, a licensed architect with the internationally renowned firm of Philip Johnson, Ritchie & Fiore Architects and a structural engineer with the McDonnell Douglas Corporation (now Boeing).
